Overview

A game server listens for players on one or more network ports. Nodex reserves these ports on the node as allocations, and assigns them to your server when you create it. For example, to run a second Team Fortress 2 server on the same node, give it a different primary port than the first one’s 27015. To open the network settings of a server, open its Settings tab and choose Network.

Allocations

The Allocations section lists the ports that the server’s game requires. Some games need more than one port to work. For example, a game may use one port for players to connect and another for server queries. Each row shows the name and description of the port, and the port number assigned to it. Players join your server using the node’s IP address and the port of the primary allocation.

Change a port

To change the port number of an allocation:
  1. Click the button at the end of the allocation’s row
  2. Click Edit
  3. Enter the new port number
  4. Click Submit
The new port applies the next time the server starts. Port numbers must be between 1024 and 65535. Two allocations of the same server cannot use the same port. A port that is in use by another server on the same node is rejected.

Computed ports

Some ports are computed from another port, and they update automatically when you change the port they depend on. A computed port shows a lock icon instead of the actions button, and you cannot edit it directly.

Create an allocation

If an allocation of the game has no port assigned, a Create Allocation button appears on its row. Click it, enter a port number, and click Submit.
